Career Summary
Bryan Montgomery was born 26 March 1929; son of Hugh Roger
Greville Montgomery, MC and Molly Audrey Montgomery, OBE;
educated at Lincoln College Oxford (MA PPE; Fleming Fellow).
Bryan Montgomery is a Director of the Andry Montgomery Group,
the largest independent and privately owned group of exhibition
organisers, managers and consultants in the world. Under his
leadership the Group has been involved with over 100 exhibitions,
mostly trade events, world-wide. They include such events
as Interbuild, founded in 1895 for the construction industry,
and the UK's largest industrial exhibition. It was also the
first British exhibition to be elected a member of the Union
des Foires Internationales (UFI) in 1962. He was elected President
of UFI in 1994 for a 3-year term. He is also the grandson
of the founder of the company which celebrated its centenary
in 1995.
From 1970-2000 he was a director of exhibition companies
in South Africa, Bahrain, Melbourne, Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala
Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Peking and Shanghai.
He travels widely, and has contributed to international conferences
such as those sponsored by the International Trade Centre,
Geneva. With John Vimpany, a fellow director of Exhibitions
Consultants Ltd, he wrote the UNIDO booklet "Industrial Fairs
and Developing Countries", and is the author of many articles
on exhibitions for "International Trade Forum", published
by the International Trade Centre. His other publications
include "Going to Trade Fairs" (UNCTAD/GATT booklet) and "Exhibition
Planning and Design. A Guide for Exhibitors, Designers and
Contractors" (Batsford 1989) with John Allwood. This book
has been translated into the Russian language and is now available
in Chinese.
He is a former Chairman of the British Association of Exhibition
Organisers, the British Exhibitions Promotion Council, and
the International Committee of the US National Association
of Exposition Managers. Between 1987 and 1990 he was a member
of the London Regional Council of the Confederation of British
Industry.
Bryan Montgomery is now retired from active work at Andry
Montgomery Ltd but remains Co Chairman of the Montgomery Network,
and Chairman of Exhibition Consultants Ltd publishers of the
second edition of World Exhibitions by the late John Allwood.
