The Great Exhibitions 150 Years

(Written by John Allwood and revised by Ted Allen and Patrick Reid)

First published in 1977, but out of print for many years, this book is widely regarded as the definitive history of the medium. At the time of John Allwood's death in 1985, he was planning a second edition, which would bring up to date the colourful and sometimes troubled narrative of the development of the high ideals of the Great Exhibition of 1851.

The original work has been revised and new chapters added, bringing the story of these new projects into the new millennium - from the Crystal Palace to London's Millenium Dome and Hannover's Expo 2000.

This volume is required reading for the professional and a treasure trove of information for the amateur enthusiast. Lavishly illustrated, it provides not only a commentary on the past but a glimpse into the future of international exhibitions.
